The Poppy

Poppy remem page.jpg

From the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day on November 11th of each year, millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who sacrificed for our freedom. The Royal Canadian Legion invites everyone across the country to show their recognition by proudly wearing this symbol of Remembrance and taking a moment to reflect.

The Lynn Valley Legion provides a local Remembrance Day ceremony in Veteran’s Square, ensuring that Veteran’s, families, seniors, youth, able bodied and differently abled persons in Lynn Valley are given the opportunity to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country.

The Poppy Campaign was created as a means to raise funds in order to perpetuate this sacred memory and provide for veterans and their families in their time of need.

Poppy Tagging

Poppy tagging

As a Member of the Lynn Valley Legion, it is expected that all Members will participate in the Poppy Tagging initiatives during the Poppy Campaign.  All that is required is one to two hours of your time to man a Poppy Tagging location within in the District of North Vancouver in order to ensure the distribution of the Poppy to all of the residents.  If you are unable to participate in Poppy Tagging we are always looking for Members to man the desks at the Branch, accepting and distributing Poppy Tagging boxes, filling/refilling Poppy boxes, providing food and hot beverages to returning taggers and/or helping with managing and depositing the incoming funds from the Poppy Tagging efforts.  This is our largest fundraising undertaking of the year which generates between $40,000 and $60,000 per year to our local Poppy Trust fund and many hands make light work.  These funds are distributed directly back into the community supporting Veteran’s, their families and the community at large.

The Poppy Campaign is very much a local initiative, conducted by Legion Branches in cities, towns and communities across the country. Donations collected during the Poppy Campaign are held in Trust at the Branch level to directly support Veterans and their families within their community.

Through your donations to the Lynn Valley Legion Poppy Trust Fund, the Legion provides financial assistance and support to Veterans, including Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, and their families who are in need.  Poppy Funds may be used for:

November 11, 2020

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
We will remember them.
