The Royal Canadian Legion is the guardian of the Poppy and Remembrance in Canada. By Act of Parliament, June 30, 1948.

The Poppy Campaign

The Poppy Campaign was created to raise funds that help perpetuate this sacred memory while providing support to Veterans and their families in times of need. Donations to the Poppy Trust Fund remain within our community and provide financial assistance and support to Veterans, their families, and others in need, ensuring the Legion can continue its commitment to serving those who have served us.

This year, the National Poppy Campaign will run from 24 October to 11 November 2026. During this time, millions of Canadians will wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who sacrificed for our freedom. The Royal Canadian Legion invites everyone across the country to show their recognition by proudly wearing this symbol of Remembrance and taking a moment to reflect.

Poppy Tagging

AMembership at the Lynn Valley Legion comes with a commitment to supporting our annual Poppy Campaign. We ask every member to contribute where they can, whether by volunteering for one or two hours at a Poppy Tagging location within the District of North Vancouver or by assisting with the many behind-the-scenes activities that help make the campaign a success.

If you're unable to participate in Poppy Tagging, there are many other ways to get involved. Volunteers are always needed at the Branch to prepare and distribute Poppy boxes, refill donation boxes throughout the campaign, welcome returning taggers with refreshments, and assist with counting and processing donations.

The Poppy Campaign is our largest annual fundraising initiative, and every volunteer plays an important role in its success. Through the dedication of our members and the incredible generosity of our community, the funds raised remain within our community, providing financial assistance and support to Veterans, their families, and others in need.

Poppy Trust Funds

The Poppy Campaign is a truly local initiative, conducted by Royal Canadian Legion Branches in cities, towns, and communities across Canada. Donations collected during the Poppy Campaign are held in trust at the Branch level and are used to directly support Veterans and their families within their own community.

Through donations to the Lynn Valley Legion Poppy Trust Fund, the Legion provides financial assistance and support to Veterans, including members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, as well as their families when they are in need. Poppy Trust Funds may be used for:

  • Grants for food, heating costs, clothing, prescription medications, medical appliances and equipment, essential home repairs, emergency shelter, and other assistance for Veterans and their families in need.

  • Housing accommodation and care facilities for Veterans.

  • Funding for Veteran transition programs that support the training, education, and ongoing needs of Veterans and their families.

  • Comfort items and assistance for hospitalized Veterans and their surviving spouses.

  • Transportation, visits, and day trips for Veterans.

  • Accessibility modifications to assist Veterans living with disabilities.

For the Fallen

By Laurence Binyon

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,

England mourns for her dead across the sea.

Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,

Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal

Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,

There is music in the midst of desolation

And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,

Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;

They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;

They sit no more at familiar tables of home;

They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;

They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,

Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,

To the innermost heart of their own land they are known

As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,

Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;

As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,

To the end, to the end, they remain.
